Well, you know I am a sucker for anything meta related, so here we go.
In the first image we see that the shot is framed in red, yellow and blue. They are all very strong colors, that are generally used together when trying to show strong emotions. Red as you all know, is the universal color (in film) for romance, giving the scene an immediate romantic connotation. Generally Blue and red combined signal danger; however we have a very warm yellow in the back, toning down this sign to make it much more friendly. It tells us that the danger is not actually dangerous. It is something bold, something new, something excitingly risky.
As you can see Sherlock is holding a rather long phallic object in his hand. Notice also the way the confetti is placed. This is very commonly done in films when sexual subtext is used. This is a clear ejaculation shot (the come would cover Sherlock’s face.) Notice also John looking at him attentively, making him part of this subtextual sexual act.
We also see a hand in the back, holding another phallic object. That is also commonly done. You generally want to use quite a few phallic objects, to truly ingrain the image in the audience’s mind.
The second picture is also very interesting. We see John holding the phallic object with two hands, and, as you can see, it doesn’t look natural. That is because that is sexual subtext 101. What they are trying to show is a blowjob/ handjob.
Notice also that Sherlock is still holding his own phallic cylinder, and notice that it is erect, subtextually showing heavy arousal. There is also the fact that he is taking pictures at a gay bar, thus it is safe to say he is taking pictures of men, while aroused.
